Funky Friday Nails - Green Day Tribute

Image
This Saturday sees my favourite band Green Day play the Emirates Stadium in London.  Many of my friends will be there but I unfortunately will not.  To cheer myself up I have created a design on my nails to match their most recent album releases UNO, DOS and TRE. More details after the break.

May Tri-Polish Challenge Day 4 - A Little Bit of Tartan

Image
Just a quick one for the final day of this month's tri-polish challenge. My chosen polishes for this month were Barry M Cobalt Blue, Barry M Bright Red and China Glaze Elephant Walk. More details after the break.

May Tri-Polish Challenge Day 3 - Abstract Roses

Image
A less complicated than it looks mani for day 3 of the May tri-polish challenge. I have given this one the title of Abstract Roses as it reminds me a bit of an abstract painting. More details after the jump.

Happyness Festival Nail Art Tribute

Image
I'm a big fan of stand up comedy so when the Happyness Inverness Comedy Festival started up last year I was there every night.  More information on the festival can be found on their website  http://happy-ness.co.uk/  or the facebook page  https://www.facebook.com/HappynessInvernessComedyFestival?fref=ts This year I have created some nail art to wear to the festival incorporating the festival logo. More details after the jump.

Funky Friday Nails - Water Marble

Image
I thought I would have a quick go at a water marble. Not quite as successful as I'd hoped but I was in a bit of rush.   I will be doing another look with these colours over the weekend for a special event I'm attending.  I'll post more about that tomorrow. The colours used for this water marble were NYC Faithful Fuchsia, Barry M Spring Green and Collection Go Retro!

May Tri-Polish Challenge - Day 2

Image
For day 2 of this month's tri-polish challenge I thought I would do some stamping over a gradient of all the colours.   I sponged on Barry M Bright Red, Barry M Cobalt Blue and China Glaze Elephant Walk.  Next using Konad black stamping polish and various animal print stamps from Gals plate GA32 I stamped them over the top. May Tri-Polish Challenge Day 1

A little 80s inspired look for the first day of the May Tri-Polish Challenge. More details after the jump.

Monkey See Monkey Do Monday - Naughty and Nice

Image
This is a look inspired by this Robin Moses tutorial on You Tube .   As this week sees the tri colour polish challenge as well I have broken out the false tips to paint these designs.  It was just too cute not to have a go at and I will definitely be having another go at this one on my real nails. More details after the jump.

Funky Friday Nails - Doctor Who

Image
First I would like to say welcome and thank you to all the new followers to my blog. This blog is to help showcase the designs I create and challenge me to come up with lots more interesting looks. I appreciate and am grateful for everyone that takes the time to support me by following the blog and/or leaving comments. As Saturday sees the finale of the latest series of Doctor Who the nerd in me has been inspired. So this week’s Funky Friday nails have a Doctor Who theme. More pictures and details after the jump.

Wednesday Work Nails - Subtle Lilac

Image
I try and tone down my nails for work and I thought I would share some of the looks with you. I started with a base of Barry M Berry Ice Cream and stamped Max Factor Midnight Bronze over the top.  This adds a nice pink tinge to the Midnight Bronze and helps the colours blend nicely together.  The stamped image was taken from Gals plate GA31. This was nice and quick to put together and my lacking photography skills meant I wasn't able to completely capture just how pretty the colours were.

MSMD Monday - Sunset Silhouette

Image
I saw this mani at So You Beauty  and had to give it a go.  The colour combination was one that had been in my head and I thought this was a great design to have a go at. I wasn't sure that my nails would be long enough to pull off this design and I have a mani I'm not ready to take off yet, so I have broken out the falsies.  I bought some nail tips from Sally's to practice painting on, so I don't wear out my own nails with all the ideas I want to try out.  While this might be cheating a little bit I did start with a blank canvas and the painting was all done by me. More details after the jump.

Ask A British Nail Blogger -Oldest Polish?

Image
I am a member of the British Nail Bloggers group on Facebook.  It's a great place to get advice, share ideas and take part in challenges.  With a view to sharing information the group regularly sets an 'Ask a British Nail Blogger' question. This time round the question is what is your oldest polish?  As much as I love painting my nails and playing with colour, until fairly recently my nail polish collection was practically non existent and compared to many I still have quite a modest collection. The oldest polish in the collection is only around 3 years old and it is a bottle of Collection 2000 (now just Collection) Bongo Beat a lovely dark metallic teal colour.  Unfortunately that polish has gone AWOL in my bedroom and I can't find it, so I don't have a picture but you can see it on the Collection website  http://www.collectioncosmetics.co.uk/nails/nail-polish/hot-looks-nail-polish.aspx More details after the jump.

Funky Friday Nails - Comic Book

Image
This week I thought I would have a go at recreating the look from these  Model's Own Wah Nails wraps .  Obviously mine don't look as neat and professional as the wraps which, are based on the most popular designs from the Wah Nails Salons, but I was still pleased with how they turned out. More details and pictures after the jump.

World Ovarian Cancer Day - 8 May 2013

Image
To show some support for the first World Ovarian Cancer Day I have created an Art Deco Look using Teal - as that is the colour for the day. More details after the jump. Ovarian Cancer can affect any woman and if caught early enough is treatable with a good chance of survival.  Unfortunately there are still many cases where the disease is not caught early and chances of surviving 5 years from the initial diagnosis are greatly reduced.  Early detection and treatment obviously need a lot more research and there are links in the graphic above for more information. When it was suggested on Crumpet's Nail Tarts Facebook page that the members do a mani using teal to show their support and raise awareness for this day I thought "I can do that".  This is the finished result: I used Barry M Teal as the base and stamped with Barry M Silver Foil over my index, ring and little fingers with Gals image plate GA35.  I filled in the little squares in the design with B

Monkey See Monkey Do Monday - Cherry Blossom Nails

Image
After seeing cherry blossom nails all over the place I really wanted to have a go myself but wasn't sure where to start.  I found this Cute Polish tutorial on You Tube ( http://youtu.be/nuc0iNXLZmM ) really helpful but I did change the colours a little bit when I did it myself. Details after the jump.

May Day Flowers

Image
The nail art brushes got a bit of an airing for this one.  I wanted to create a nice, fresh spring look and couldn't find an image on any of my stamping plates that I thought would fit the bill, so I had to create something for myself.  Also I was feeling quite inspired after watching a few of Robin Moses ( http://www.youtube.com/user/robinmosesnailart ) tutorial videos on You Tube.  There are over 900 videos on this channel and it was quite difficult to tear myself away from the computer long enough to paint my own nails.  Robin describes the painting technique (how to place the brush and the pressure to apply, etc) as she creates the design, which is very helpful if you are new to nail art.  I need a lot more practice painting freehand designs on nails but I think this one turned out quite well. Details of the polish used after the jump.

Funky Friday Nails - Holographic Stars

Image
The work week is done and the weekend is finally here so it is time for something a little more vibrant on my nails. I started with a base of Rimmel Azure and stamped an image from Cheeky plate CH51 over the top  in 17 Holographic Silver.  There are nice subtle iridescent pink highlights in both polishes which complimented each other really well and this looks really great in sunlight. This weekend sees the start of the May Day celebrations so there will be another post up tomorrow with something to welcome Summer.  All we need now is a bit of sunshine!
